Welcome to Mayfield!

Our hope is that in visiting our website you will take a brief tour of our church, which I have been privileged to serve as pastor since 2001.  Our congregation includes farmers and professors, retired persons, homeschoolers, trades workers, and secretaries.  When you join us on a Sunday morning for worship, Sunday School, and fellowship, you are sure to find a warm welcome.

Our members and friends come to Mayfield along a variety of spiritual paths, but we are united to worship the triune God and to serve our community with the compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ.  That's why we are proud to call ourselves "fair-minded, free-thinking followers of Christ."  If you are seeking a faith community where divergent views are honored, you will feel at home with us.

We are particularly proud of our spiritual fathers and mothers at Mayfield who risked their homes and farms and sometimes their lives for the Underground Railroad, documented in James Macon's film, "Wade in the Water."  In that tradition of social justice ministry and service, Mayfield Church voted in 2002 to become an Open and Affirming congregation, a designation in the United Church of Christ to proclaim openly our commitment to welcome all people to worship and participate fully in the life of our church, regardless of race, gender, age, nationality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, physical ability, or mental condition.  You can read more about our Open and Affirming convenant on the About Our Congregation page of this website.

We hope you enjoy exploring Mayfield Church here on the web and that you will join us some Sunday very soon.  When you do, please let us know you met us first online!

Joyously webbed,

Rev. Mary Gay McKinney
